Gore-Tex fabrics are breathable/waterproof, and was co-invented  in 1912-1986 by Wilbert L. Gore, Rowena Taylor, and Gore's son.

Main quality is that Gore-Tex keeps you dry, the company claim that the guaranteed waterproofing is applied for all products made with Gore-Tex.

Gore-Tex fabric is made of:

• Membrane - is made from over 9 billion pores / square inch. The membrane is waterproof from outside because the pores are 20000 times smaller than the drop of water, also the membrane is allowing perspiration to go outside from the inside because the pores are 700 times larger than perspiration (water vapor molecule). Membrane contain an oil-hating or oleophobic substance to prevent the insect and body oil to penetrate and affect the membrane.
• Laminates - the Gore-Tex membrane is inserted between high-performance fabrics (all fabrics are waterproof, windproof, and breathable). Laminates are different to get what is more important for you: texture, weight, abrasion resistance, etc.
• Seam Sealing - the seams and stitching are compromising the properties of the fabric (like water and liquid - waterproofing). But to ensure that they will not leak they will be sealed with an unique tape (GORE-SEAM® TAPE). Every day the sealing and taping technologies are improved to increase the durability, refining their drape, weight of garments.

Gore-Tex fabric is made from polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). PTFE is manufactured using the fluorosurfactant (PFOA)
