In the language of Urdu (spoken in Pakistan), Nanga Parbat translates into Mount Blank, because its huge rocky hills devoid of vegetation, well, in the climbers jargon, the mountain has earned a reputation for gruesome "people killer." Nanga Parbat "offer" in full all the ways a tragic end in his kingdom. Here death lurking around every corner as various forms: pulmonary edema or heart, fatal frostbite, hypothermia, avalanches, physical exhaustion, altitude sickness.
A German expedition in 1930 paid with death the courag of 31 members to face the Mount Blank. So far, from the 261 climbers who have climbed the peak, 61 have died in the conditions listed above. In 2005, the famous Slovenian climber Tomaz Humar, remained isolated for six days on an ice wall at a height of 5900 meters, he only survive because of an lucky intervention made by Pakistani army, which rescued him with a military helicopter. Among the latest victims of the Mountain include the Italian climber Karl Unterkircher, which in 2008 fell into a crevasse.
