# 8. Mount Charro Chalten, Patagonia, Border between Chile and Argentina
Height: 3.375 m
Known by western climbers under the name of Mount Fitz Roy, the Charro Chalten has his original name from its proximity to the village of El Chalten. From first "conquer" in 1952, when French climbers Lionel Terray and Guido Magnone have climbed the highest peak of it, the Mount Fitz Roy took many lives annually. Despite his height at all impressive for a killer mountain, Fitz Roy is a very dangerous mountain for experienced and professionals climbers. The danger, is because the mountain slopes are from granite making any escalation operation to turn into an adventure extreme, where death may be at any step. Add here and the weather which can change in less than five minutes.

Fitz Roy mountain is "specialized" in killing the photographers (if we can say so). His unique and spectacular form, draws in each season hundreds of photographers from around the world, amateur eager to capture special snapshots. Most end up on icy slopes, and their bodies are never recovered. To get an idea about the difficulty of Fitz Roy, note that, currently, on average, about 50 people climb up and down safely on Everest. Fitz Roy, is successfully climbed only once a year!
