The one I enjoyed the most was "The Mountain" with Spencer Tracy and Robert Wagner, and on the second place "The Sharp End"

Nordwand ( North Face) is an excellent movie - not only as a mountaineering / climbing movie, it's an excellent well made movie - period. I own it on Blu Ray - it looks and sounds fantastic in our home theater. Highly recommended!!!!

  • The Eiger Sanction, Clint Eastwood, 1975
  • Out of the Shadow and into the Sun (One of the earliest films of the Eiger nordwand)
  • El Capitan (A haunting film about an ascent of the nose)

When I was a kid I was impressed by the climbing scene in James Bond: "For Your Eyes Onl"y. For years I thought prussicking should be done with shoe-lace sized cords

Most of those are O.K., but I liked Seven Years in Tibet even though the mountaineering scenes were only about 5 minutes long. There's also The Man Who Skied Everest, more a documentary, but won an Oscar (1971 or so). That opening scene in The Day the Earth Stood Still (new one) was a surprise, and the end to The Bucket List was so touching.

From MLC SC shows, most people hate climbing films, and from how many leave or fall asleep, even supposed climbers can't stand climbing slideshows for very long.
