Pros
  • Lightweight
    - the small size (it doesn't take up much space in the pack), weight and relative ease of use are the MIOX's chief advantages
  • Maintenance
    - last longer with batteries and salt
    - sometimes takes 2 or 3 attempts to get the right salt solution
  • Good filtration
    - it does leave a slight chlorine aftertaste in the water, but this dissipates over time
    - it's often easier to just double to dose and forget about the test strips
    - it does kill everything
  • Easy to use
    - it's easy to use (I never bother with the strips) and it's great for treating large volumes of water for big groups
    - food grade rock salt works best (though, any salt works, even that stuff you put on your driveway, or just those restaurant packets, if you're not so daring)
  • Added bonuses
    - it is a good hand sanitizer, especially if you splash the water on your hands when rinsing the water bottle threads
    - serves replacement for washing that water bottle
Cons
  • none
Best Uses
  • Backpacking
  • Hiking
  • Day trip
  • Car camping
  • Travel
